This week we've added the all-new Blackmagic URSA Mini 4.6K Digital Cinema Camera (EF Mount). This camera can capture up to an impressive 15 stops of dynamic range with its Super-35mm sized 4.6K sensor.
One of the biggest appeals of the Ursa Mini is the ability to record RAW CinemaDNG files at up to 60 fps. The CinemaDNG files can be recorded uncompressed, or at 3:1 and 4:1 compression ratios if memory space is a concern. If you'd prefer ready-to-edit files, you can also record in UHD (3840 x 2160) and 1080p in a variety of ProRes formats. The dual CFast card slots allow you to swap cards while recording. When the current card is full, recording will switch to the second card so you can swap the full card - allowing you to shoot for extended periods of time.
The URSA Mini also features a variety of professional connections including 12G-SDI Out, HD-SDI monitoring out, 2 LANC inputs, dual XLR audio inputs with phantom power, & timecode in. Power is provided with the included 4-pin XLR power connector cable or optional Anton Bauer Gold Mount batteries.
Our URSA Mini 4.6K kit will include the XLR power adapter, side grip with control buttons, top handle, accessory handle, shoulder mount with 15mm rod clamps, and Anton Bauer Gold Mount battery plate.
What You'll Need
The URSA Mini 4.6K utilizes CFast 2.0 memory cards, which are not included with the rental. The camera does not have a way to transfer footage directly, so if you don't already have CFast cards, you'll most likely need a CFast Reader as well. As-is, the camera must run off of AC power or a 4-pin XLR power source. If you'd like to use batteries, the URSA Mini is compatible with Anton Gold Mount batteries. Last, to open the RAW files, you will need to have software that is compatible with CinemaDNG files. If you don't have one, Blackmagic offers Davinci Resolve on their website for free, and it does a great job. You'll need to register with Blackmagic to download the software.
If you're ready to start shooting 4.6K raw, the Blackmagic URSA Mini 4.6K EF Mount can be rented here.
